Engineering Manager – Fiber to the Home
Pay range: $75,000.00 – $130,000.00 / annually
unWired Broadband is searching for a knowledgeable and driven Engineering Manager to join our Fiber to the Home team. Reporting to the Outside Plant Director – FTTH, this position is responsible for managing all phases of an outside plant build to ensure that builds are completed as designed, including all outside plant jobs involving the installation, removal, or rearrangement of outside plant facilities. This position is also responsible for in-person validation of new and existing field design and layout of the OSP telecommunications network to include aerial, buried, and underground fiber network design and layout, underground conduit, handhole, building entrance, and riser facilities.
Essential Duties:
- • Oversee the creation of detailed network designs and plans, including fiber routing, network topology, and equipment specifications. Ensure designs meet performance, scalability, and reliability standards.
- • Coordinate and direct building activities on site related to maintenance, testing, quality assurance, operations and production.
- • Design network by determining cable types, equipment needs, and routing configurations for optimal performance and reliability.
- • Assist in developing accurate fiber engineering, permitting, construction budget estimates and timelines.
- • Design projects utilizing digital and non-digital field data collection devices like Height stick, Measuring wheel, Laser’s, Lidar, Katapult.
- • Create construction prints and permits using ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Vetro, Google Earth etc., and other programs as needed.
- • Coordinate with Outside Plant Director-FTTH and construction contractors to verify build completion is per design, ensure quality control and obtain/verify as-built documents for entry into Vetro GIS Fiber Network database.
- • Conduct routine inspections by checking for cable damage, equipment malfunctions, and environmental hazards.
- • Detect faults by identifying and resolving service disruptions and network issues.
- • Address critical outages and restore communication lines promptly.
- • Maintain detailed records of network performance, repairs, and project updates.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- • Minimum 5 years’ experience in telecom, FTTx network design and outside plant construction, both aerial and buried.
- • Working knowledge of rights-of-way, encroachment permits, property rights, and private easements.
- • Experience in permit acquisition with various entities including but not limited to municipalities, PG&E, SCE, Frontier, AT&T, and Caltrans.
- • Familiarity with electrical permits and single line diagrams.
- • Knowledge of locating equipment and 811.
- • Experience utilizing AutoCAD for drafting and knowledge of ArcGIS Pro 3.2, Vetro, Google Earth and Ocalc.
- • Experience with OTDR tests, Light meters and Power meters.
- • Advanced knowledge of MDU design and construction in both Greenfield and Brownfield environment.
