Online Tools to Help You Save Money

Becoming more financially savvy is a skill that many people want to learn. Luckily, you don’t have to be an accountant or financial advisor to learn how to budget or save money. There are plenty of online websites and tools that can help you save money and learn how to manage your finances better. From budget apps to investment tools to store reward programs, you can learn how to save money right from your phone or computer!

Making a budget is an easy way to start saving money right now! Mint is perfect for budgeting beginners because they walk you step-by-step through the budgeting process. The website connects to your bank account to make it super convenient to track and budget your monthly expenses and transactions. They also have a bill tracker that can help you stay on top of your bills and alert you when they are due. They even have a mobile app so that you can keep track of your budget no matter where you are!

Qapital makes saving money fun and automatic! The app will connect to your bank account and move money into a savings account based on the rules that you set. You can choose from their preset rules, such as rounding up every purchase and saving the spare change or saving a certain percentage of your paycheck every payday. You can also customize your own rules using IFTT or the Apple Health integration. For example, you can designate a certain amount of money to be saved for every purchase you make at Starbucks. Another fun one is to save every time your favorite celebrity tweets or every time your football teams wins!

Acorn’s mission is simple…invest your spare change. When you connect your bank account to Acorn, it will automatically round up your purchase and invest your spare change. Acorns has portfolio options ranging from conservative to aggressive, based on your desired risk level and goals. The best part is that after you set up your account, Acorn will do all the work for you!

Store Apps

Many stores and restaurants have apps that can help you save money without even trying! Here are some of our favorites:

Target’s app allows you to scan items in the store and will automatically apply available coupons to your Cartwheel. When you check out, you can scan your Cartwheel barcode on the Target app and have the coupons applied to your purchase!

Walmart has a similar program called Savings Catcher, where you can scan your receipt after purchase, and they will compare the prices you paid with competitors such as Target or Walgreens. If you paid a higher price than one of their competitors, they will issue you a gift card equal to the difference of the two prices.

Restaurant Rewards Apps

A lot of restaurants, such as Chick-fil-A, Sonic, Café Rio and Starbucks have apps that will track your purchases so that you can earn points towards rewards such as free items or discounts on future purchases!
