5 New Streaming Services Coming Soon
For a long time, Netflix was the king of streaming services. However, other major media companies are now cashing in on the rising popularity of streaming services. Within the next several years, you can expect a huge influx of new streaming services from brands that you already know and love, such as Disney, NBC and Apple. Here’s a breakdown of some of the streaming services slated to be launching soon!
Disney+
Probably the most buzzworthy streaming service coming this year is Disney+. Launching on November 12, 2019, it will feature content from the Disney, Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars franchises, as well as 30 seasons of The Simpsons and 21st Century Fox classics. In addition to a library of licensed content, they will also be releasing original movies and TV shows, only available on Disney+. Plans will start at $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year.
Apple TV+
Unlike other streaming services, Apple TV+ will only feature original TV shows and movies. You can expect a myriad of content from Hollywood power players including Steven Spielberg, Jennifer Anniston, M. Night Shyamalan, Reese Witherspoon, Oprah, Brie Larson and Jason Momoa. You do not have to have an Apple TV device in order to watch; the service will be available on any device that supports the Apple TV app. Subscriptions will be on $4.99 a month, and if you purchase a new Apple device, you will get a year of Apple TV+ for free!
HBO Max
HBO Max will bundle HBO and Cinemax, as well as content from CNN, DC Comics, TBS, The CW, Warner Bros. and Cartoon Network. One of its hallmark shows will be Friends, which is leaving Netflix early next year. Pricing is not available yet, but experts predict it may cost between $15 and $16 a month. They will also be producing their own content, including TV shows and movies. HBO Max is launching in spring of 2020.
Peacock
In April 2020, NBCUniversal will be releasing their own streaming service called Peacock. This will be the home of your favorite NBC shows like The Office and This Is Us, as well as original exclusive content, including a reboot of Saved by The Bell. There will be over 15,000 hours of content available on Peacock. Although pricing has not been announced yet, NBCUniversal has said that there will be ad-supported and ad-free tiers.
Discovery/BBC
There’s not a lot of information about the Discovery/BBC streaming service yet, but we know it’s coming in 2020! It will feature content from BBC, Discovery, HGTV and Food Network, as well as exclusive content. Pricing has not been released yet.
